Reading space, Antwerp, 2015
The book-tower is a Faberge egg-like object designed/ developed for a bibliophile and ceramist. The free-standing object houses her book collection (on ceramics) and a reading corner with a wood stove. The zenithal lighting offers the only window towards the outside world. The object lies in the courtyard next to her workshop and is the space where she can escape into her books.
The structure of the tower also provides the book shelving system and is made out of vertical steel fins connected by horizontal wooden shelves. The outer skin is made from white glazed ceramic tiles, individually hand shaped and baked by the ceramist in her workshop.
