The introduction of a new horizon on a human scale in a surrounding of steel and glass and the introduction of a series of soft elements in a harsh environment. The balloon roof work by itself, but also as a series, as a new larger whole. Besides the subway entrances, several other functions go under the balloon roofs: flower stands, newspaper kiosk, food stands, bus stops. The balloon roofs are at the same time fragile, fascinating, playful and tough. It is made of polished steel skin, delicately perforated. The skin is at the same time, the structure and the finish of the balloon. It moves up and down along 4 a 6 slim steel columns. It is vandal-proof and becomes even more beautiful as it ages or becomes damaged.
