Single family house, Antwerp, 2015
Renovation of a corner building

The project finds itself on the corner of the green square at the intersection between Jos Scheurweghstraat - De Manstraat in Deurne. Built in red brick with bright contrasting white moldings and some austere geometric facade ornaments, the house inscribes itself in the typical style of the surrounding residential area. Originally a shop house with dwelling above, the building was over the years converted into real estate, hence the groundfloor facade suffered significant modifications. AG VESPA commissioned IEA to renovate the corner building to a single family residence. In order to fully enjoy the sun and the view of the square, the living areas on the highest floor were organized around a small patio. The patio also allows daylight in the stairwell, which connects the upper floor directly to the open office on the first floor, where the bathroom and two spacious bedrooms are also located. On the ground floor, next to the large entrance hall and laundry room, an extra bedroom with adjacent bathroom finds place.
The facade of the upper floors of the building is cleaned up and locally restored. Inspired by the use of brick in combination with playful frame elements around the windows, the ground floor receives a striking contemporary facade referencing and complementing the original style of the building.
